- Take it with the fattiest meal of your day. Omega-3 absorbs considerably better alongside fat than on an empty stomach. The instruction to take it with meals is the right one, and it is worth following literally rather than loosely.
- Keep the bottle in the refrigerator. Fish oil turns with heat and light. Cold storage keeps it fresh longer, and a cold softgel is far less likely to repeat on you later.
- Know what dose this is. Two softgels give you about 600 mg of EPA and DHA combined, which sits in the range general health guidance suggests for adults who are not eating much fish. The studies you may have read about moving triglyceride numbers use several times that amount, under a doctor's supervision. If a specific number on your bloodwork is the goal, that is a conversation with your doctor rather than something a bottle solves on its own.
A couple of notes
The softgel is made with gelatin, so this one is not vegetarian.
If you take a blood thinner, or you have surgery scheduled, talk to your doctor before starting. Omega-3 can affect how your blood clots, and that is worth a two minute conversation rather than a surprise.
